"The most impressive piece of kit ...

... that the team has been using almost exclusively and continuously in all circumstances has been the Aqtash Extrem. We have found it to

be more adaptable, versatile, weight efficient, warmer to weight ratio and comfortable than our Down Clothing. It has been used on every

occasion on the mountain. The Aqtash Extrem is Simplicity in action. A great clothing move. Some suggestions have been to lengthen it

slightly, so as to cover the backside more; also a hood has been suggested. Overwhelmingly the team suggests maintaining simplicity and

high colour. The Trango Jacket and Sallopettes were used by Graham and Elliot and were excellent, being robust, waterproof yet breathing

well. [...] The Lhotse Smock and Makalu Sallopettes were used and greatly appreciated by all, with a move back to pile they feel very warm

and cosy. Kayesh Top and Pant. (Excellent pyjama’s). Again simplicity in action."

mentioned above was designed by INOV8, subcontracting to Wild Horizons for Berghaus.]

" Paddy Pallin Vista, size Small. Well, I've given it the benefit of the doubt, and my beloved jacket hasn't been uncovered. Everyone ...

understands the agony of losing gear that you love, so I'm sure if you've picked it up you will rejoice at being able to return it to it's owner

who is heartbroken at having to purchase a replacement ... . Reward considered."

Review:

Berghaus Trango jacket. "Ok, so it may not be the least expensive jacket out there, and it cretainly [sic] isn't the kind of jacket you'd want to

buy to keep you dry when walking to the shops. In fact, if you get one of these its more likely that you will be planning an expdition to

somewhere very, very wet. The Berghaus Trango Jacket (if you can get hold of one as they are- I believe- gradually being phased out) is a

fantastic breathable and waterproof jacket.  It is well designed, using an interesting innovation to allow one handed closing of toggles and

drawcords, well cut to allow freedom of movement whilst retaining its breathability, and the large map pockets are situated for easy access

even when wearing a rucsac. Another handy feature is the re-enforced elbow pads that are impregnated with reflective material- prevents

excessive wear and tear on the elbow and stops you getting run over by a random car on a country road at night. If there is one problem with

the jacket it is the fact that it does not come far enough down the body and you get a wet butt, but this can be rectified by the addition of

water proof trousers (which I have not been sensible enough to do yet- so I can't review them yet...) However, a truely great coat from a big

name in the business, if you want the best, its there for a price....

Advantages: water proof- and I mean REALLY water proof, breathability and the huge pockets

Disadvantages: a little too short in the body

4 out 5 stars."

[NB: As a mountaineering jacket, the Trango was designed to be short. It therefore tangles less with a climbing harness.]

"EcoSpecifier ...

is a guide to selection of individual materials on an "environmentally preferred" basis. The format of EcoSpecifier is different to other fact

sheets because it is an independent publication. It has been included because it is the most comprehensive guide to selecting

environmentally preferred materials. EcoSpecifier explains how materials are assessed as being environmentally preferred based on lifecycle

assessment and a range of other factors. It includes a comprehensive list of environmentally preferred generic materials commonly used in

Australia. Use this valuable tool to either select materials with least environmental cost, or to gain an understanding of the principles of

selection in order to identify or develop alternative materials."

"... great reading ...

and the format is jus about perfect for PgDn and PgUp, it's the first time I've seen that format and I'm on the web all

the time. Great idea! "
